Position Title:   Assistant Professor, Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Laboratory Science)
Department: School of Health Professions
Position Status: Full Time, 12 months 
Reports to:  Program Director, School of Health Professions
FLSA Status:  Exempt

General Summary:  The Assistant Professor is a non-administrative faculty, with full rights and responsibilities of the full time faculty.  Primary responsibility for the faculty focuses on providing instruction and an effective environment for student learning, service and scholarship. The faculty participates in program and course assessment activities on an ongoing basis. This position is a full time 12 month faculty appointment.

Requirements:

Specific responsibilities of the Clinical Laboratory Science Instructor include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Embrace and advance the Catholic, Franciscan mission of the college by ensuring that all teaching, service and scholarly responsibilities are consistent with the mission and implemented so as to achieve its goals.
  • Implement curriculum and instructional interventions
  • Participates in program and course assessment activities
  • Assesses student learning
  • Coordinates and participates in recruiting events for the Clinical Laboratory Science Program
  • Provides academic advising for students
  • Actively participates in professional organizations
  • Actively participates in scholarly activities
  • Actively participates on assigned program, school and College committees
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree required, PhD preferred/desired
  • Three years of clinical experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
  • Experience in clinical chemistry, blood banking and/or immunology/serology desired
  • Experience teaching  in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science  Program preferred
  • Certification by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) or equivalent
  • Current LSBME license as Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Generalist

Working Environment:

  • Monday- Friday
  • Occasional travel
  • Occasional special events requiring some evenings and/or weekends
  • Office, classroom, and laboratory environments
