Baton Rouge's hospitals provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services to the community. Options include six large acute-care hospitals, with a total of more than 1,500 beds, as well as a number of smaller specialty hospitals and clinics. There is also a wide range of primary care physicians and specialists available to serve the medical needs of the community. Nursing home patients can choose from 26 different facilities, with a total of more than 3,000 beds. More than 200 dentists are located in Baton Rouge, including general dentists, cosmetic dentists, orthodontists and other dental specialists. In addition, Baton Rouge-based Amedisys, a leading provider of home healthcare services, ranked 12 on the 200 Best Small Companies List.
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOLRMC) is the largest private medical center in the state. It serves about 25,000 people on an inpatient basis each year, and approximately 350,000 patients are served each year at OLOLRMC's many outpatient locations. OLOLRMC has been named by Solucient as a Top 100 Hospital for Cardiology and was recently named the Hospital of the Year by the Louisiana State Nurses Association. The hospital received a Nightingale Award with the hospital of the year distinction and several nurses from OLOLRMC and OLOL College were individually recognized.
